Pressure, Rhythm and Flow

The experience of a massage depends largely on pressure, rhythm, and flow. How firm or light your strokes are, how quickly or slowly you move, and how the strokes connect from one to the next all shape the person’s experience. These variables are what turn a massage from “nice” into an experience that is truly enjoyable, memorable and even epic!

Everyone has their own touching style ( we covered this earlier) both in giving and receiving massage. Finding a rhythm and flow that works for the person on the table is key. Flow is the smooth, connected movement from one stroke to another. When you pay attention to it, your massage feels intentional, comfortable, and connected.

Communication is essential. You don’t want to interrupt someone’s relaxation, but brief check-ins throughout the session help ensure your pressure and pace are matching their needs.

Simple phrases can make a big difference

Notice the subtle cues, too deep breathing, sighs of relief, or a body that starts to relax under your hands all tell you that you are creating a massage that feels connected and intentional.

Simple phrases can make a big difference

“I noticed you tensed up there was I going too deep?”

“Would you like me to lighten up?”

“Is that okay?”

“Can I go a little deeper?”

Listening with your hands, eyes, and words is what transforms your massage into an experience that truly meets the person where they are.
